It was one of those weird “facts of life” things. Birds fly, fish swim, David Jacobs never gets sick. David said that it was probably due to him having a little brother. Les introduced him to so many horrible germs when he was younger that David’s immune system became Fort Knox.

This had its ups and downs. Jack hated being sick, and having David bustle around, talking about all the homework Jack missed while Jack suffered usually just made him crankier. However, Jack had to admit that it was nice to have David over and not have to worry that he was going to catch some horrible disease. And he knew David would’ve come over even if his immune system wasn’t freakishly powerful.

At this particular point in time, David was over at Jack’s house after school, talking about their English homework, while Jack was lying on the couch, completely miserable. He had woken up with a headache, snotty and with a cough. His mom had taken one look at him and went to call the school to let them know he’d be absent. After she left for work he’d spent the whole day either in a Nyquil haze or watching Saved by the Bell reruns.

Jack looked over at David, in perfect health; going on about the last chapter of “The Great Gatsby” they were supposed to have read. Damn cold season. It wasn’t fair.

“But Davey,” Jack whined, despite knowing it wouldn’t work. Being an older brother also meant that David was immune to whining. “My eyes’re all gunky and watery. How was I supposed to read like this?”

It wasn’t like he was lying; his eyes really were watery, and he was having trouble doing any sort of reading.

“But you’re going to have to take the test when you get back to class,” David argued. Luckily, Jack had the perfect solution.

“You could read it to me.”

Jack could practically see the debate going on in David’s head. On the one hand, they both knew that the reading had been due that day, so Jack really should’ve already done it. David never approved of Jack’s tendency to procrastinate, and didn’t want to start now. On the other hand, Jack really was sick, and he did look very pathetic. Jack gave a cough and looked over at David, who just rolled his eyes.

“Fine,” David said. “I’ll read the chapter to you.”

“Yes!” Jack whooped, and then started into an actual coughing fit. David patted his back, and once it subsided, got the book out of his backpack.

“But!” David gave Jack a stern look. “You have to pay attention. And I’m going to quiz you when I’m done to make sure. Okay?”

“Yeah, yeah, that’s fine.”

Jack tossed his pillow in David’s lap, and lay down. David looked down at him and smiled. Jack gave him a thumb's up.

“Ready?”

“Yeah, I’m good.”

David cleared his throat. “‘When I came home to West Egg that night,’” he started, and Jack pulled the blanket around, closed his eyes, and listened.

Okay, so maybe the fact that David never got sick was absolutely perfect.

***

Also, I think I have some sort of unofficial Javid Shmoop-verse going on, in between this ficlet and the previous shorter sleeping ficlet.

Here's a completely random Javid snippet! I'm like, half-asleep myself, but this idea just wouldn't leave me alone. So, here it is. Stupid amounts of plotless sleepy-Javid-shmoop for your reading pleasure.

When David walked into his and Jack’s apartment it was 12:30am, all of the lights were still on, the TV was blaring, and Jack was passed out on the couch. It took David a moment to realize that it actually was Jack on the sofa, and not some crazed hobo who had broken into their apartment for a nap. The couch was a monstrosity; lumpy, uncomfortable, and an eye-sore. They tended to avoid it as much as possible, and David could count on one hand the number of times that one of them had actually slept on it. David closed the door as quietly as possible, went over and turned the TV off.

Jack was lying on his back, with his arms and legs sprawled out around him, and, yep, he was definitely drooling. And snoring. David was always amused at how Jack was an absolutely un-sexy sleeper. Their cat, Teddy, was curled up in a ball on his stomach. David knelt down, and lightly nudged Jack’s shoulder. Jack stirred a little, enough to rouse Teddy, and half-opened his eyes.

“We have a bed for a reason,” David whispered. Jack’s eyes slipped close, and he gave David a sleepy, dopey smile.

“Wanted to...stay up. Till you got home.”

David brushed his hand through Jack’s hair and gave him a light kiss. Then he scooped up Teddy, and managed to get the still half-asleep Jack standing. Walking Jack into the bedroom, David turned off the lights.

So this is a FUN CHANGE!

And, basically, OH MY GOD THE NEW EPISODE WAS SO AWESOME AND SO MANY CRAZY THINGS HAPPENED AND IT WAS A ROLLER COASTER RIDE OF EMOTION AND I'M SUPER EXCITED FOR THIS SEASON!!!! It had creepy moments, and awesome yelling "HELL YEAH!" at the screen moments, and screamy "OH MY GOD WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?!?!?! NOOO!" moments, and hilarious moments, and MANPAIN, and plot twists, and meta, and Da Devil! GOD I LOVE THIS SHOW SO MUCH!

And I'm excited for all the new fic-things that shall be happening now! Hooray! More awesome people making more awesome fic! <lj:music>Batman Begins on the TV</lj:music>

Kyle Reese/Marcus Wright are so in love. Love love love. Seriously, the slashness in that movie is one of the biggest reasons why I found it pretty enjoyable to watch. There definitely needs to be more fic of them. And I might just MAYBE ship some one-sided Kyle/John. Cause you know Kyle has a total ridiculous crush on him.

Uh, Spoilers ahoy, I guess.

That being said, I liked the movie more the second time I saw it. I don't know why, I think I just liked all of the characters a lot more (especially John Connor). I was still really annoyed by the Blair character, though. She was pretty much pointless, and it was kind of hard to believe that she was a soldier, since she seemed a little too eager to get rescued by Marcus, and then disobey orders to let loose a TERMINATOR!!!!! But I did like Marcus, I thought he was pretty badass. And I LOVED Teen!Kyle Reese. And I enjoyed all the catch-phrase shout-outs (especially because it wasn't just random catch-phrasing, it makes sense!).

I think that the second time I watched it, the time-line stuff made more sense for me or something. Like, it totally makes sense that the machines would know that Kyle was John's father. Since Sarah was blabbing away at a mental institution, of course they would have that on some kind of file somewhere. And it totally makes sense as a precursor to them trying to mess things up by sending Terminators back in time, since trying to mess up the timeline in the present didn't work. AND I liked how the machines basically set John Connor up as their arch-nemesis.

So, basically, while there were specific things that I thought could have been done better, I still thought it was pretty good. I think I dug how it fit into everything big-picture-wise, so I can overlook dumb specific things. Plus, the tasty men helped quite a bit.

    <lj:music>Remembering Childhood - Hook Soundtrack</lj:music>

I just dled the entire Hook soundtrack. Because I couldn't find my VHS of it (WHYY?!?!). Seriously though, Hook is awesome, and the soundtrack kicks all kinds of ass. It makes me have nostalgia-flashbacks like WHOA. REMEMBER WHEN THEY'RE ALL HAVING THE IMAGINARY DINNER?!?! RU-FIO! RU-FIO! RU-FI-OOOOOOOOOO!

In short, Hook rules. I don't get why people hate on it. It's fun and full of adventure and heartfelt moments, and badassery. Sure it's kinda corny, but that what makes it great. It is awesome in its corniness. It's corniness takes no prisoners.

Actually, that wasn't very short at all. But it doesn't matter, cause Hook is super-awesome.

Also, it's weird that Rufio is also Zuko. Weird and awesome. That is all.

Okay, Phineas and Ferb is totally my new favorite show on TV. Seriously, this show is hilarious and amazing. Dr. Doofenshmirtz and Perry the Platypus are probably my two favorite characters. They are just too hilarious. And some of the songs are really ridiculously catchy (not to mention the fact that I constantly have "Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated!" stuck in my head). Basically, the show is cute and hilarious, and everyone should watch it!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3t1RpT2LOI

Been home in Florida lately, so I haven't really had much time to actually write/work on stuff. BUT, I have managed to work on something!

So, here is a snippet of this ficlet that I have going. It was originally supposed to be done in OCTOBER, because October was unofficial "write what you hate month" at the Ol' Newsies Homestead, and I used to hate this sort of plot. Also, I decided that the Newsies fandom totally needs more crack, so this was my attempt to help bring a little.

So, without further ado, I bring you...A snippet from...(and this is just a working title...)

David had some experience with experiments going awry. There was the time that he turned his pet turtle Alfred into a giant nine-headed fire breathing monstrosity bent on destroying New York City. Or the time that he completely-on-accident created that human destroying-death-robot that...also happened to be bent on destroying New York City. So, as far as experiments going awry went, this one was actually pretty tame. At least in terms of how it affected New York City. David refrained from mentioning this to Jack. He suspected that Jack would not take the optimism very well. Considering that Jack was now sitting on his bed, in the fetal position, and that the bed wasn’t exactly his bed so much as her bed, because it seemed as though Jack Kelly had been effectively transformed into a female.

***

"You...drank my experiment?"

"...yeah."

"It said ‘Experiment: Do not drink!’ on it!"

Jack shrugged. "And?"

"And...why did you drink it?!"

"It was late and I was thirsty! It was in a juice carton! Why'd you put it in a juice carton?!"

***

David patted Jack's back in what he hoped was a comforting manner for a guy who had been accidentally transformed into a woman.

"It’s going to be okay. I should be able to reverse-engineer an antidote."

David could see Jack relax.

"Oh thank god."

Unfortunately, Jack could also see David look extremely awkward. David was always bad at keeping things from Jack.

"Wait...Davey...what ain’t you telling me?"

When Jack got stressed his accent started to slip. He was very, very stressed.

"Well," David took a deep breath. He could do this. "Since there were clearly incorrect elements in my original plan...I don’t know what elements were active that caused...um...this reaction. So...it might take me a while to-"

"How long?"

"-figure out what happened, what went-"

"How long?!"

"-wrong...and how I can fix it..."

"David! How long am I gonna be stuck like this?"

David paused his rambling. "...Max? I’d say...a month."

Jack gasped, and staggered back.

"But probably less!" David continued. "It should only take a week or so but...I don’t want you to get your hopes up just in case it takes longer."

"A month. I’m gonna be stuck like this...for a month."

"...probably less."

David DOESN'T befriend Jack, and they DON'T strike (despite...you know, the fact that the strike actually happened in real life even though Jack Kelly and David Jacobs weren't there since they are entirely fictional...*cough*) and something dramatic happens where Jack and David just feel empty in their lives, and then they meet up when they're older (for some reason...I'm a little sketchy on the details), and FINALLY THEY FEEL COMPLETE(!) and they do...something! Probably Blink, too. Possibly Denton. And a variety of familiar villains!

I'm neglecting to say what exactly the Crossover is now, even though I had previously talked about this idea, just to maintain a slight element of surprise when (... or if *crosses fingers*) I finally do write it. Even though it is its own story, and pretty much just takes place in the same Universe as canon, I don't want to get all spoilery and whatnot.

Hm...maybe if I finish this fic, I'll do some sort of one-shot or something of a proper cross-over. That would be fun, but also intimidating.

So Verizon decided about five months ago that it would be an evil company and send us the router/modem that would completely break and die within five months instead of the usually FIVE YEARS TO NEVER. Which means that I am now internetless at my apartment (I'm at school right now, and god I love wifi) until at least tomorrow, but probably Thursday. Luckily we're getting a shitload of money back and don't have to pay our bill...but still. Come Verizon. Stop sucking so much.

Anyways, moving on to more fun things...THE OSCARS! I thought it was great, definitely one of the more entertaining ones I can remember. I have serious love for Hugh Jackman now. That opening number was just hilarious and awesome. You are Wolverine. Live it and love it. Some very important points:
1) SLUMDOG WON! YES YES YES YES YES!
2) I desperately, desperately wish that Freida Pinto and Dev Patel would get together IRL. Seriously, they are just too adorable together. And hearing about Anil Kapoor talking about how they had so much chemistry made me so amused and happy. Also Freida looked AMAZING in that dress. So beautiful.
3) God I love Slumdog Millionaire.
4) HEATH! THANK GOD YOU WON! Seriously, if anyone else had won they would have been hated forever. You definitely deserved it.
5) Sean Penn...you were really good in Milk, but...come on...Mickey!
-And those were pretty much my only thoughts. Oh, and I'm also happy that Dark Knight won at least one technical award. WTG!

Uh...I had something else that I wanted to talk about...OH YEAH! HEROES! Man, Heroes was pretty ridiculous for a while...but it seems at least like people are starting to get rid of the idiot ball more often. I'm actually ENJOYING it and cheering often instead of just constantly going "Wtf? Why did that just happen?" And Peter Petrelli was actually being a badass and saved Matt, AND SHUT DOWN NOAH BENNETT'S ESCAPE!!! WTF PETER?!?! WHEN DID YOU GET COOL?! And Mohinder did something cool instead of just being a tool! Hooray! And now Claire's hiding a cute boy in her room (who I think kinda looks like Peter...) and Sylar has a side-kick (Sy-dekick?)! Awesome! And Matt was being a badass and getting inside Noah's head, and actually getting useful information!!! And Daphne isn't dead...woohoo?

I am seriously loving the idea of the heroes getting together and fighting back against whatever forces are trying to get them. I wish that Matt, Mohinder, and Peter could've stayed together as a little team for longer. And Peter walking outside of the hotel room to find out Noah's dirty-doings was so hot. It's great to see Peter actually DOING something instead of just whining about how much Nathan sucks (which nobody should ever talk about again on the show because it's just become a moot point).

I need to get more into the Heroes fandom. I'm sure there are some good fics out there...I just need to find them...
